Hello! I’m Daphne. Born in the Philippines and raised in sunny Los Angeles. I’ve found my calling as a makeup artist in the world of celebrity, fashion, film, and advertising. Beyond the brushes and palettes, I find solace at home with my poodles, savoring delicious meals, or challenging myself in workout classes. I practice pottery making, ikebana and painting. Each aspect of my life adds a stroke to the canvas of who I am.

How did you get your start in the beauty industry?
My love affair with beauty began in high school. My home became a sanctuary where I transformed my friends with haircuts, dye, and custom-made clothes. It was a one-stop glam house, buzzing with creativity and laughter. When I chose cosmetology as my high school elective, I had no idea it would become my lifelong passion. Every snip and color was a step on a path I didn’t know I was walking.

Just Black Denim is founded by Korean immigrants. I saw you were born in the Philippines. How did your experience moving to LA as an immigrant impact you as an entrepreneur?
Moving to America as a toddler, I grew up surrounded by images of beauty that didn’t reflect me. In a city as diverse as Los Angeles, I often found myself the only woman of color in the room. It was challenging, but it also ignited a fire within me to redefine beauty and make it inclusive. This journey taught me to embrace my uniqueness and opened my eyes to the beauty within everyone. My experiences as an immigrant have fueled my determination to create opportunities for others, using my wisdom and confidence to break barriers.
What is your favorite beauty product right now?
I’m currently in love with the Tower 28 concealer and Le Mieux Bio Cell Rejuvenating Cream. These products are more than just items in my beauty kit; they’re little luxuries that celebrate the natural beauty of the skin.
What’s a beauty secret or tip you can share with our followers?
For a more natural lash look, trim your strip lashes into mini pieces. Remember, less is more. And don’t forget to always wear SPF—it’s your skin’s best friend. Beauty is about enhancing what makes you uniquely you, and sometimes the simplest steps make the biggest impact.
What is your advice for someone wanting to become a makeup artist?
Fall in love with your passion, and let that love guide you through the challenges. Study your craft diligently, and believe in yourself wholeheartedly. There will be times when you’ll need to be your own cheerleader, and that’s okay. Trust in your journey, and let your passion be the light that leads you.
