Getting to know Camille Nichelini

Co-owner of Resident Objects, @camillelenore, shares her story and how her business came to be.

First of all, can you introduce yourself and your sweet kitties?

My name is Camille Nichelini! Most people will recognize me as Camille Lenore (my middle name). I moved to LA from the Bay Area summer of 2014 when I was 18 to get my AA in Visual Communications at FIDM and have been here ever since! My kitties are named Sinatra (4 years old), Ziggy Stardust (3 years old), and BeeGee (9 months old).

Using 3 songs, how would you describe your personal style?

  • Cherry-coloured Funk by The Cocteau Twins
  • Where We Belong by Passion Pit
  • Dream Cave by Cloud Control

We absolutely love your decor style, when did you first start curating your home?

I’ve had a passion for home decor for as long as I can remember! I used to constantly rearrange my childhood bedroom as early as 7 or 8 years old (it would drive my mom nuts constantly hearing furniture screeching across the hardwood floor). I feel like only recently in the past 3-4 years I’ve finally gotten a true sense of my own personal style vs just buying what is trending.

What do you get most of your inspiration from?

Vintage interior photos are my favorite source of inspiration! I love instagram accounts that are dedicated to posting old interiors from the 60s-90s. The IKEA online archive is incredible—they just don’t make things like they used to!

What pushed you to launch Resident Objects?

I LOVE thrifting, estate sale hopping, garage sales, etc! It was getting to the point where I was finding too many gems that I couldn’t pass on, but didn’t necessarily need to keep for myself. This is what sparked the inspiration to start my own curated shop! A day or two after I started RO, my good friend Yuka had texted me that she had a piece of furniture she needed to sell—I gave her the account login, invited her to join the Resident Objects instagram page to sell her own finds too, and the rest is history! To this day we are still the only two people running the business, but are hopeful the future will lead us to a physical space and more growth!

Do you have any advice for anyone looking to find their own style?

Don’t read too much into what trends are currently being pushed by the market. Stick to buying things you truly love and your sense of style will follow!
